Poll Results: What is the number one reason people don’t give chiropractic a try?

October 30, 2009

The Joint…A Chiropractic Place did a poll this month asking what you thought was the number one reason why people don’t try chiropractic.  As you can see, the results were huge.

Out of all of our voters, 14% said because people don’t understand the concept of chiropractic care, 14% said people don’t know the benefits chiropractic can bring, 43% said it was because people don’t think they need it because they are seemingly healthy, and 29% added a different answer from those provided including fear and all of the above. The chart below demonstrates our results.

jointchart1Remember it is very important for everyone to get regularly adjusted, to ensure your body is working to its full potential. The entire body is controlled by the nervous system. What chiropractic care does is remove any potential interference with the nervous system, due to subluxations or spinal misalignments, ensuring that the body is fully able to self-heal and self regulate as it was intended by nature to do.

So whatever your reason has been for not trying chiropractic, let it go and give us a try! For more information on The Joint, visit us at www.thejoint.com

The Flu and Chiropractic Care

October 29, 2009

fluThe chiropractic profession has a long history of being involved with influenza, a.k.a. the flu, outbreaks.  What most people do not know is that chiropractic care also has great success with treating influenza cases.  This can be seen in the 1917-1918 Spanish Flu epidemic.  In the article, 1918 Influenza Epidemic and Chiropractic Care, reproduced by planetchiropractic.com, it compares how the chiropractic profession and the medical profession treated the influenza and the results of those treatments.

Below is a table that shows the amount, in the state of Iowa, of cases each profession saw and the amount of deaths, due to the flu, within those cases, during the Spanish Flu epidemic.

Influenza

Cases

Deaths

Treated by Medical Doctors

93,590

6,116

Treated by Chiropractors

4,735

6

The state of Iowa shows that for the medical doctors they lost 1 out of every 15 patients; whereas, chiropractors only lost 1 out of every 790.  Nationally, the chiropractic cases come out to have only 1 loss out of every 886.

The common theme among the chiropractors during that time was to pick up the cases that had been given up on by the medical community.  In Oklahoma, chiropractors were called to help in 233 cases that the medical doctors said were a loss.  The chiropractors saved all those cases except for 25.

Not only did the chiropractors keep people healthy, they also helped the cases that were considered a loss, during the Spanish Flu.  The chiropractic profession got a lot of people interested and involved in the profession directly due to their part in caring for people during the Spanish Flu.  Since the flu season is coming up and the Swine Flu Pandemic is lurking around every corner, make sure you are seeing your chiropractor regularly.

What Is Self Regulating And Why Is It Important?

October 27, 2009

1Like self-healing, your body has an innate ability to self-regulate.

Examples of self-regulation are blood pressure, heart rate, liver and kidney function, and even digestion.  You don’t need to read a book, take a class or download something to self-regulate, or self-heal for that matter, you already have an inborn ability to do it.

The entire body is controlled by the nervous system. What chiropractic care does is remove any potential interference with the nervous system, due to subluxations or spinal misalignments, ensuring that the body is fully able to self-regulate and self-heal.

Do you have high blood pressure?

October 26, 2009

high_blood2Blood pressure is the force in the arteries when the heart beats (systolic pressure) and when the heart is at rest (diastolic pressure). If you suffer from high blood pressure then you probably know that it directly increases the risk of coronary heart disease (which leads to heart attack) and stroke, especially when it’s present with other risk factors.  But did you know that chiropractic could possibly help?

Chiropractic care helps enable your body to work at its fullest potential by removing nerve interference through correcting subluxation (a vertebra out of proper alignment) with chiropractic adjustments. By correcting the alignment of the vertebra, you can now see the direct correlation between your possible conditions and spine alignment. Keeping your spine aligned properly allows your body to function at an optimal level, which will often result in a disappearance of these symptoms and conditions.

If You Have Problems With The Joints In Your Hand, They Could Be Related to Your Cervical Vertebra 7

October 23, 2009

arthritis_in_hands_health_wellness_foodsYour spine has a direct relationship to your health. Different everyday symptoms could be a result of an issue with a particular vertebra. Some of these general symptoms include, asthma, allergies, migraines, digestive problems, sinus problems, menstrual problems, and many other everyday symptoms. Each symptom is connected to a specific vertebra.

So let’s go into more detail and concentrate on a particular vertebra, cervical vertebra 7.  C7 is the seventh cervical vertebra from the top of your spine. This vertebra is connected to the fingers, wrists and elbows. The possible effects correlated with this vertebra are hand problems, neck problems, wrist problems, and elbow problems. If you have any of these symptoms, you may have an issue with your sixth cervical vertebra.

The Joint would be glad to answer any questions you might have about these symptoms or any other symptoms your having that you feel may be related to your spine. Visit us at www.thejoint.com and use our interactive spine tool to see which vertebra your symptoms are related to.

Chicken Soup for the Chiropractic Soul Series: Now I Know that Grandma Loves Me…

October 21, 2009

grandmother460x276Linda first came to our office because of chronic back problems that had started after a fall three and a half years earlier.

After seeing the chiropractor for about two weeks, her back problems went away.  She was now about to do the things she loved to do.  She was an avid gardener, but pain had forced her to give it up.  She was ecstatic because she could finally get back to her gardening.  She was also a very proud grandmother, with the youngest grandchild being only two years old.  Her grandchildren loved to spend the night at her house.  This past weekend was different, though.  She remembers her son coming to get the kids.  Before leaving, grandma reached down and picked up her youngest grandchild and gave her a big hug.  The grandchild looked at her father and said, “Now I know that Grandma loves me.”

The father looked at his daughter and said, “Of course, Grandma loves you.  She always did.”

The child said, “No, everybody who loves me picks me up and hugs me.  Grandma never did, but now I know Grandma loves me.”

Tears ran down Grandma’s face.  Back pain had prevented her from picking up her grandchild, but chiropractic allowed her to demonstrate her love to her grandchild for the first time.

The Joint Supports Local Artist

October 20, 2009

The Joint…A Chiropractic Place loves getting involved with the community.  One of the ways The Joint Vinings contributes to the community is by allowing a local artist to hang and sell her paintings in the office.  The artist’s name is Su. Daitch.

Su Daitch loves color, and her art reflects that passion.  In the spring of 2000, at the age of 50, that passion surfaced. However, was almost two years before that passion fully erupted. With the urging of a close friend, Su landed a spot painting at Café Tu Tu Tango in Atlanta. She liked bringing people into her world of color. Su found painting there to be almost magical. Whatever it was that had been locked up inside, started finding it’s way to her paintings. And they started to sell.  Soon becoming Café Tu Tu’s #1 selling artist.

Her art is displayed at countless locations around Atlanta.  Her portfolio has swelled to well over 1300 pieces; with almost one-quarter of those now in collections throughout the U.S.  And, her flow of creativity has only been augmented by her success, as has her zeal for life, and her legion of supporters and fans.

What is Dizziness and how can Chiropractic help the symptoms?

October 19, 2009

8Dizziness is a word that is often used to describe two different feelings.

1. Lightheadedness is a feeling that you are about to faint or “pass out.” Although you may feel dizzy, you do not feel as though you or your surroundings are moving. Lightheadedness often goes away or improves when you lie down. If lightheadedness gets worse, it can lead to a feeling of almost fainting. You may sometimes feel nauseated or vomit when you are lightheaded.

2. Vertigo is a feeling that you or your surroundings are moving when there is no actual movement. You may feel as though you are spinning, whirling, falling, or tilting. When you have severe vertigo, you may feel very nauseated or vomit. You may have trouble walking or standing, and you may lose your balance and fall.

Dizziness is related to several of your vertebras, cervical 1, cervical 2 and cervical 4.  This means that chiropractic adjustments could help with you dizziness.  Are you wondering how?

Chiropractic care helps enable your body to work at its fullest potential by removing nerve interference through correcting subluxation (a vertebra out of proper alignment) with chiropractic adjustments. By correcting the alignment of the vertebra, you can now see the direct correlation between your possible conditions and spine alignment. Keeping your spine aligned properly allows your body to function at an optimal level, which will often result in a disappearance of these symptoms and conditions.

In Order for Your Back to Stay Healthy, It’s Important for You to Know How to Properly Lift Heavy Objects

October 15, 2009

backDM310_228x274Lifting a heavy object can injure your back, pull muscles or, if dropped, cause further injury to you or others. If you lift heavy objects correctly, you can save yourself a lot of pain in the present and long-term damage that could affect your future health and well-being. The Joint…A Chiropractic Place wants you to take care of you back so here are some steps on how to lift heavy objects safely

1.     Evaluate the object you are lifting to see if it is unequally balanced, if it has handles and where the best place to grasp it is. Know where you are going with the object before you begin.

2.     Stand directly in front of the item that you wish to lift. Center your body over it and position your feet shoulder width apart.

3.     Tighten your stomach muscles and stand straight and tall, keeping your back as straight as possible.

4.     Bend your knees. Without moving your upper body, squat down to the floor.

5.     Grab the item you wish to lift firmly with one hand on either side of it. Hold on to it firmly and in such a way that it is balanced.

6.     Use your leg muscles to raise your body to a standing position while lifting the object off the floor at the same time. Lift slowly, not with a sudden jerk upward. Keep the item close to your torso, using your body to help balance the object.

7.     Walk with the item without twisting your body. Stand straight and take small steps. Have someone help you by leading the way if you cannot see where you are going to avoid running into someone or something.
